History of Music Education Sessions at 35th World Conference of ISME

 The 35th World Conference of the International Society is being held as a virtual conference from 17-22 July 2022. This year there are several sessions focusing on historical topics including the following:

  • Paper presentation by Giovanni Carugno: 'Back to Braille: Music Education in Nineteenth Century Italian Special Schools' - Monday, July 18 at 6:30 AEST on Channel 3.
  • Symposium 'Seeing through a Wider Lens: Considering Revisionist History in Music Education', chaired by Craig Resta - Tuesday, July 19 at 9:00 AEST on Channel 3.
  • Symposium 'Historical Perspectives on Music Education in Indigenous Communities', chaired by Robin Stevens - Wednesday, July 20 at 9:00 AEST on Channel 3.
  • A Historical Research Mentoring Session, chaired by Craig Resta - Friday, July 22 at 7:00-8:00 AEST (Channel to be advised when available).
Another history session was included as a Keynote Address to the pre-conference meeting of the Commission on Policy: Culture, Education and Media on July 14 by Robin Stevens entitled 'Lessons from History: Provision of Classroom Music Teaching in Victorian Government Primary Schools'.
